Autumn Equinox

Autumn Equinox

The autumn equinox marks a gentle turning point in the year. Day and night come into near balance, summer begins to loosen its hold, and the season shifts towards cooler mornings, golden light and longer evenings.

It is a natural moment to slow down.

And few rituals suit that feeling quite as well as tea.

A Season of Balance

The word equinox comes from Latin roots meaning “equal night”, referring to the time of year when daylight and darkness are almost equal in length.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the autumn equinox usually falls around 22 or 23 September and signals the astronomical beginning of autumn.

There is something quietly symbolic about this moment of balance.

The year is changing. The light is changing. Nature begins to turn inward, and many of us instinctively do the same.

We reach for warmer clothes, softer lighting, comforting food and familiar routines. Tea becomes less of a refreshment and more of a ritual.

Why Tea Feels Made for Autumn

Tea has always had the ability to create a pause.

There is the sound of the kettle. The warmth of the cup between your hands. The aroma rising with the steam. The few minutes spent waiting for the leaves to steep.

None of it needs to be rushed.

In autumn, that simple process feels especially welcome.

A cup of tea can mark the beginning of the morning, offer a quiet break in the afternoon or become part of an evening routine as the daylight disappears earlier.

It creates a small moment of warmth in a season defined by change.

Teas to Enjoy Around the Autumn Equinox

This is the time of year when richer, warmer flavours begin to feel particularly inviting.

Black teas offer depth and comfort, especially blends with notes of malt, caramel or spice.

Chai brings warming flavours such as cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and cloves, making it a natural choice as the temperature begins to fall.

Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free and has a soft, slightly sweet flavour that works beautifully with vanilla, orange or warming spices.

For something lighter, green tea with toasted or nutty notes can reflect the changing season without feeling too heavy.

Herbal teas also come into their own during autumn. Apple, cinnamon, ginger, mint and chamomile can all create a calming seasonal cup.

Create an Autumn Tea Ritual

Celebrating the autumn equinox does not need to be elaborate.

It can be as simple as making one cup of tea with a little more intention than usual.

Choose a favourite mug. Put your phone to one side. Open a window and notice the cooler air, or sit somewhere you can see the changing light.

Allow the tea to steep properly rather than rushing it.

You might light a candle, wrap yourself in a blanket or spend ten quiet minutes reading, journalling or simply watching the steam rise from your cup.

The point is not to create a perfect seasonal moment.

It is simply to notice that the season has changed.

A Moment to Reflect

Traditionally, autumn is associated with harvest: gathering what has grown before preparing for winter.

That idea can offer a useful moment of reflection too.

What has this year given you so far?

What would you like to carry into the months ahead?

And what might you be ready to leave behind?

The equinox sits between the brightness of summer and the darkness of winter. It reminds us that both have their place.

A warm cup of tea can become a small companion to that transition.

Welcoming the New Season

Autumn does not arrive all at once.

It appears gradually in cooler evenings, changing leaves, softer sunlight and the first time you instinctively reach for something warm.

The autumn equinox simply gives us a moment to notice.

So make the tea.

Find a comfortable place to sit.

Watch the light change.

And welcome the season, one cup at a time.

Sip Your Way to Wellness: How Teas Support Gentle Detoxing

The new year is the perfect time to reset your habits and one of the easiest ways to support your body is through the simple ritual of drinking tea. Detoxing doesn’t have to mean extreme cleanses or complicated routines — healthy teas offer a gentle, enjoyable way to refresh your body from the inside out.

Especially Hoogly blends are a most indulgent way to feed your body and mind with goodness.

  • Green tea: Packed with antioxidants, it supports metabolism and helps fight oxidative stress.  We recommned Apple Strudle, Classic Green, Jasmine Dawn, Lemon Drizzle or Rhubarb and Vanilla.

  • Ginger: Soothes digestion, reduces bloating, and promotes circulation. The Ginger Biscuit or Lemon and Ginger ideal for this.

  • Dandelion and herbal blends: Traditionally used to support liver function and natural cleansing. Try our Turmeric Twist, Citrus Bloom or Spiced Banana Rum.

  • Fruit and dessert inspired flavors: From chocolate brownie to blueberry muffin, these teas satisfy cravings without added sugar, letting you enjoy “treats” guilt-free.

A gentle, tea-based approach to detoxing is all about consistency, not extremes. By sipping thoughtfully each day, you can support digestion, hydration and overall wellness — all while enjoying delicious, indulgent flavors that make healthy living a pleasure, not a chore.

Summer Sensations!

Summer Sensations!

Greetings Hoogly fans! I hope you are all safe and well. The summer is here and the sun is (mostly) shining, and the world is creeping back to something like ‘normal.’ Now is the time to discover all the ways in which you can make the most of the warmer weather with our spectacular selection of luxury brews, which are the perfect accompaniment to a hot day, whatever your plans!

As you know, Hoogly is all about relaxation, mindfulness and being kind to yourself, and what better way to chill and unwind than sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine, fresh air and all the scents of summer. To make the most of your sunny experience, we heartily recommend one of our latest and greatest brews: Apricot Blossom. This is an elegant combination of Chinese Pai Mu Dan white tea and Sencha green tea, underscored by a refreshing drench of fruity flavours. It’s perfect for an afternoon tea, a picnic, a sunbed sidekick, or even as a cheery reminder of good weather on a classic English rainy day. This charming tea comes in pyramid bags or loose leaf, and makes an ideal gift, putting a smile on the faces of your friends and loved ones, and giving them a treat they can return to time and again.

Another newcomer is the tantalising and tempting Tiramisu black tea, a rich and indulgent pick-me-up that combines coffee beans and cocoa within a body of Sri Lankan black tea and roasted dandelion root. This creamy indulgence is an exhilarating new way to enjoy a classic cup of tea, and absolutely perfect to share with family and friends. Give your taste buds something to exciting to work on this summer, whether you’re serving with a picnic, enjoying at breakfast, or capping off a delicious meal!

Our next newbie is also incredibly versatile, ideal for any occasion or season! Introducing Ginger Biscuit rooibos tea! This is Hoogly’s take on the classic snack: a light, warm and subtly spicy blend of rooibos and ginger that will hit the spot no matter what. This winning blend is a great way to relax at the end of a long day, and equally good as a treat, or an accompaniment to any kind of meal. And, yes, we’ve even tried it as a cheeky caffeine-free midnight cuppa, and it does the trick! Just don’t tell anyone your secret!

Summer is not summer, of course, without a lolly—and our brews are perfect for frozen family fun! We recommend Sweet Orange Rooibos for your icy delight—it’s bursting with South Africa’s unique rooibos taste, and alive with juicy, zesty citrus flavours and a playful hint of strawberry! Simply brew the bags for twice as long as usual, pour the contents into a mould of your preference, and leave in the freezer overnight. When you wake up, you’ll have a sensationally sweet summer treat for all the family!

If lollies aren’t your thing, then give a Hoogly ice tea a go! Place two teabags of your choice in a heat-proof pitcher, pour in four cups of boiling water, and leave for around five minutes. Then remove the teabags, sweeten, add slices of fruit for a lush twist, and pour in five or six cups of ice until they melt. Allow everything to settle and then whack it in the fridge until the sun gets too hot to handle, and you’re good to go! For an ice tea that’s full of glamour and inner balance, why not try our Rhubarb and Vanilla green tea, which carefully caresses tart and sweet flavours, creating a note-perfect accoutrement for a chill day in the sun.

So that’s it for this time, Hoogly lovers. Stay safe, enjoy the weather and keep flipping the kettle on!
